Yoal rowing has become a popular sport throughout Shetland. The Gulberwick & Quarff Club is always looking to recruit new members. There are male and female categories – under 16, under 21, veterans and open. Open having no age restrictions, veterans are 40 plus. A crew consists of 6 rowers and a cox.  We have a new boat this year and are looking forward to a fresh start.

Our club was established in 1998. At the moment we have a predominantly female membership who practice and compete in both the Open Women and also the Veteran categories.   In the past we have had an Open Men’s team too and are working hard to try and encourage new blood into the club.

Practice nights for the open and veteran women are normally Monday and Wednesday.  The open women section regularly attends regattas to compete in races which are held over a 1000m course. Regattas are held at the weekend.  Anyone with an interest in trying rowing please get in touch and come and join us.  Our practices are held in Clift Sound, setting off from our noost at Wester Quarff. It’s a great way to socialise and get fit at the same time.
